about me

Mark Forstater is a veteran film producer whose career spans more than 50 years, including one of the most iconic comedies ever made - Monty Python and the Holy Grail. His love for film began as a teenager in Philadelphia, after discovering art-house cinema and falling in love with the works of Fellini, Truffaut, Bergman and Antonioni. Coming from a working-class family with no artistic background, he never saw himself as “creative,” which is why he was drawn to producing rather than directing. After studying film in New York, Mark moved to London in 1968, reunited with Terry Gilliam and soon found himself working alongside the Monty Python team just as their TV show was launching. At 28, he produced his first feature film which became a global classic, earning tens of millions and launching the directing careers of Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones. Over the decades, Mark evolved into a creator in his own right - developing screenplays, writing seven books and redefining his understanding of creativity. Today, his work centres on Dreamby, an ambitious online platform designed to reinvent how films, TV, games, art and music are made and distributed in the 21st century.

" Creativity is where capacity meets opportunity. "

in this session

In this session, Mark shares candid lessons from five decades inside the film world - the mistakes, the breakthroughs and the emotional landscape of working with brilliant but challenging creative minds. He reflects on navigating two directors on one set, managing artistic egos, learning when to speak and when not to speak, and understanding the difference between a producer’s mindset and that of a performer or writer. Mark speaks openly about early mistakes, including comments to the press that unintentionally hurt collaborators - and how those moments shaped his approach to leadership, communication and compassion. Mark also explores his long journey with creativity. Raised without books, music or culture at home, he grew up believing he wasn’t creative - yet decades of filmmaking taught him that creativity is a capacity anyone can develop. He reveals how ideas arrive when you’re open, how opportunity meets readiness and why the universe itself is creative.
